Hi, my friends. This week. Whew. To say it’s been a tough one for me is a gross understatement. I have been feeling SO MANY THINGS since the election results, and it’s been really hard for me to articulate all these feelings accurately or effectively. My first feeling of shock is slowly wearing off and is replaced with some heavier emotions. I’m sad. Really, really sad. Waves of anger come and go. I’m disappointed. I’m scared. How can I raise a loving/caring/open-minded/compassionate little boy in this current climate? I’d even go so far as to say I’m disgusted.
Being an American is a…scary thing right now. Not for everyone, I’m sure. But I feel so unsure about so many things. And just…sad.
I don’t mean to say these things to cause a big political debate or to alienate anyone who may feel differently. Normally, I choose to keep these themes off this site altogether…because, normally, all I want to do here is talk about my life and food and how the two tie together. It would, however, be a huge personal oversight if I didn’t touch on this just a little bit. It is having a huge effect on me and so many people I know and love.
Where do we go from here? My biggest comfort has been that I am not alone in my feelings. SO NOT ALONE. I guess all there is to do right now is to wait and see. And to never, ever lose hope. Love can (and will!) overpower hate. We need to be the change. We need to lead the way.
In an effort to temporarily distract myself (and some of you) from our current reality, I put together my usual weekly list of great links. Thanksgiving is a couple weeks away, and I am going to try to focus on some positive aspects of my life between now and then. My son, my husband, my lovable dogs, my family, friends, career, health, and…the fact that I still believe in the good in people, despite this week’s events.
You may see a theme in this week’s links: comfort food. Not too surprising, huh? Let’s get into it…
I want to dive into a vat of these crockpot three-cheese mashed potatoes. Like, dive in and do laps. With my mouth open.
I am loving this bacon butternut squash risotto as a Thanksgiving side. Fun and a little different.
How delicious does this cheesy spinach lasagna look?! I want a hunk alongside an even bigger hunk of garlic bread.
I am sooooo craving a slice of this cranberry pecan braided bread. GORGEOUS.
This salted dark chocolate and dulce de leche tart looks like the stuff dreams are made of.
I am losing my mind over this holiday bread basket. Give me all the carbs!
How perfect does this chile-rubbed turkey look?! Such a fun twist on tradition.
My contributions this week include these fun and pink gingery grapefruit salty dogs and this hodgepodge cinnamon roll vanilla cheesecake pie of awesomeness.
Extra XOXO’s this week, dearies. Happy Friday!
