Spiced Orange Mochas

  • Author: Molly
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings (with extra syrup; easily multiplied) 1x

These Spiced Orange Mochas are a mug of cozy! A homemade mocha syrup flavored with chocolate, orange, and warm cinnamon is the flavor base for these mochas, and the combo is to die for! Sweet, warming, and spiced, these mochas will warm you up on the chilliest of mornings!

For the Spiced Orange Mocha Syrup:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons espresso powder
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cinnamon stick

For the Mochas:

  • 24 shots espresso
  • 6 oz steamed milk (I love my Nespresso frother for this)
  • 12 tablespoons of the mocha syrup per drink (or to taste)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Orange zest
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Whipped cream
  • Ground cinnamon

For the Spiced Orange Mocha Syrup:

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the syrup ingredients and set the pan over medium heat.
  2. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, until the cocoa powder and sugar have completely dissolved.
  3. Allow to cool with the cinnamon stick steeping in the syrup.
  4. Transfer to a mason jar and use as needed. This will keep in the fridge for up to two weeks. Shake or stir well before each use.

For Two Mochas:

  1. Divide the espresso between two coffee mugs and then stir in the desired amount of mocha syrup. Start with a tablespoon and add more, as needed.
  2. Pour over the steamed milk, garnish each glass however you prefer, and serve while hot.
