Description
This Bourbon Cookie Butter Hot Chocolate is off-the-charts decadent in all the best ways! So much better than store-bought cocoa mix and SO easy to make, once you try this, you’ll never go back. This is cozy and spiced, sweet and decadent, and boozy if you so choose!
Ingredients
Scale
For the Hot Chocolate:
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (this is my favorite)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/3 cup water
- Pinch of kosher salt
- Pinch of cinnamon
- 4 cups milk (dairy, oat, almond – whatever you prefer)
- 4 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, chopped (I do not recommend milk chocolate for this recipe – it will be too sweet)
- 1/4 cup creamy cookie butter (recommended: Biscoff or Trader Joe’s)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup bourbon
Optional Garnishes:
- Marshmallows
- Biscoff cookies
- Whipped cream
- Flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Place the cocoa powder, maple syrup, water, salt, and cinnamon in a large saucepan.
- Whisk everything together and then set the pan over medium heat. Whisk until smooth and starting to bubble around the edges.
- Whisk in the milk, chocolate, and cookie butter and heat until the chocolate and cookie butter are completely melted and everything is nice and hot.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla and the bourbon (the bourbon is optional – simply omit to skip the alcohol. Alternatively, you can add the bourbon to individual servings).
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and garnish as desired.
