Do you green smoothie?
I LOVE a green smoothie. In fact, almost every time I have a smoothie, it’s green.
Dan, on the other hand, swears up and down that he can taste the greens and refuses to drink them. Guess what? He can’t. There is no greens taste! Have I mentioned that he is a smidge stubborn?
Years ago, I was obsessed with Everyday Italian with Giada DeLaurentiis on the Food Network. I would record all the episodes and just watch, enamored with both the food and the host.
She sparked something in me when it comes to cooking, and I probably owe her some major props for that. She made me want to cook. She made recipes seem so approachable, and every dish I’ve made of hers has turned out wonderfully. That show had some magic about it. I swear.
All that to say, on one of the episodes, she makes a lemon basil smoothie. After watching said show, I immediately went to the store to get lemons and basil so I could make it for myself.
It was DELICIOUS. It was also filled with sugar and not much nutrition at all. It really should have been called a lemon basil slushy. Definitely more of a dessert situation than a healthy smoothie.
But I adored the flavors – lemon and basil really are a match made in heaven. And so I started incorporating them into my morning green smoothies.
I am actually kind of shocked that it has taken me this long to share this recipe. I make it ALL THE TIME, particularly in the summer months when my basil plants are exploding.
I have been second guessing whether anyone would even want or need yet another smoothie recipe out on the internets.
But I stuck with it and now am sharing this very easy but delicious green smoothie recipe with you.
The recipe features lemon and fresh basil, of course, along with frozen pineapple, baby spinach, coconut water, hemp hearts (for protein), collagen peptides (or protein powder), and a touch of sweetness from honey.
The resulting smoothie is equal parts refreshing and delicious. It tastes SO GOOD.
Just like any smoothie recipe, you can tweak and play around with the ingredients and proportions, but this is exactly how I make mine and I think it is perfection.
Sweet but not too sweet, bright and fresh, and very satisfying. Like, you actually feel full after drinking it. And it’s SO good for you!
This is definitely not one I could convince Dan to drink, given its green hue and his general disdain for overly lemony or herby things. Haha.
Oh well! More for me.
I think Giada would approve!
