Lucky Charms Cereal Milk Latte

Have you guys seen the cereal milk latte trend?

I’ve been wanting to try it for awhile now, and I’m happy to report, I finally bit the bullet.

Today we’re talking all about Lucky Charms cereal milk lattes! Just in time for St. Patty’s Day!

OK, so these are so, so fun. I am a simple gal when it comes to coffee. Usually the less fuss, the better. I don’t like things overly sweet or overly complicated.

But I am always up for a fun latte. Especially one as cute and festive as this one. I actually crave fun coffee from time to time, and this one is especially FUN.

It starts with…you guessed it…cereal milk!

Cereal milk is achieved by soaking any cereal of choice in milk to achieve that flavor of milk leftover in the bowl when you’ve finished all the cereal. The idea has been around for years now, and I think it’s genius.

In this case, we’re using Lucky Charms as our cereal!

Now, I have to warn you. After you soak the cereal with the marshmallows, your milk will take on an odd blue color. But! It tastes divine! And once you get the coffee into the mix, the blue color dissipates substantially.

If you’re squeamish about blue milk, haha, you can separate the cereal from the marshmallows and only soak the cereal. BUT I am not sure if the milk will be as flavorful. The marshmallows add their own flavor and sweetness to things, and I highly recommend you leave them in for the soak. It’s the Lucky Charms experience, after all.

Once your milk is infused with all the Lucky Charms goodness, you heat it up. I have a Nespresso milk frother that I use for all my latte concoctions, but you could also just heat the milk up on the stove, whisking it until it’s foamy.

Brew your espresso and top off with your frothed cereal milk! Voila! A Lucky Charms cereal milk latte.

Now, because we’re being fun and festive today, I recommend you top off said latte with some whipped cream and additional cereal marshmallows! Not only is it adorable, but it adds more flavor to the whole experience. Highly recommend.

Look at how CUTE it is! I can’t even take it.

And the taste is fantastic! You really taste the cereal without it being overly sweet or crazy. It’s a very nostalgic experience but with an adult twist.

My 6-year-old was not happy that he wasn’t allowed to have one of these lattes. Haha.

Whimsical and so tasty!

Description

This Lucky Charms Cereal Milk Latte is so fun and whimsical! It’s a taste of childhood but with an adult caffeinated twist. Milk is flavored with Lucky Charms cereal and frothed until warm and airy. Poured over hot espresso and garnished with whipped cream, cereal marshmallows, and a whole lot fun! Perfect for St. Patty’s Day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 1 cup Lucky Charms cereal
  • 1 shot of espresso
  • Whipped cream, optional
  • Sweetener of choice, optional
  • Lucky Charms marshmallows, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place the milk and cereal in a bowl, stir to combine, and place the bowl in the fridge. Allow to sit for at least an hour (or even overnight!).
  2. Strain the milk through a fine mesh strainer and discard the soaked cereal. Heat the cereal milk in a saucepan or using a milk frother until steamed and foamy. Brew your espresso while you wait for the milk to steam.
  3. Pour the espresso into your mug or cup of choice and top off with the steamed cereal milk. If using sweetener, add it now (totally optional!).
  4. Garnish, as desired, and serve! I love mine with some whipped cream and cereal marshmallows on top, just for fun.

Notes

  • I recommend soaking the milk overnight in the fridge for the best flavor. At the very minimum, 1 hour of soaking time will work.
  • The cereal milk will take on a blue hue after soaking – don’t be alarmed! Your coffee won’t be blue. When the milk froths up, the blue color dissipates some. If this really isn’t for you, you can soak the cereal without the marshmallows and avoid the weird color.
