A delicious cup of fall cozy vibes is coming your way.
Sound good?
These Spiced Orange Mochas are heaven sent, I tell ya. Cozy, warm, and absolutely delicious – you guys MUST try these.
I will preface this next part with this: I am usually not the biggest fan of the chocolate and orange combo. I mean, it’s OKAY, but definitely not something I gravitate toward.
So, when I was developing this recipe, I was very skeptical if I would even like it.
Much to my surprise and joy, I LOVED these mochas! Like, I almost couldn’t believe how good they were. So rich and spiced and lovely!
If you’re on the fence like I was, trust me when I say that these are delicious. None of the flavors is overwhelming – they all just work in harmony here for a comforting cup of coffee on a fall chilly morning.
These mochas start with a homemade mocha syrup. Homemade coffee syrups are SO easy to make at home, and you can control exactly what goes into them, which I love.
This particular mocha syrup is flavored with cocoa powder, espresso powder, fresh orange, and cinnamon. The combination is so, so delicious!
Let’s get into how to make these!
Ingredients You Need for these Spiced Orange Mochas:
- Granulated sugar
- Water
- Espresso powder
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Fresh orange zest
- Vanilla extract
- Orange extract
- Salt
- Cinnamon sticks
- Espresso
- Steamed milk
- Optional Garnishes: orange zest, chocolate shavings, whipped cream, ground cinnamon
How to Make These Spiced Orange Mochas:
Start with the Homemade Spiced Orange Mocha Syrup:
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, water, espresso powder, cocoa powder, orange zest, extracts, a pinch of salt, and a cinnamon stick.
- Set the pan over medium heat.
- Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, until the cocoa powder and sugar have completely dissolved.
- Allow to cool with the cinnamon stick steeping in the syrup.
- Transfer to a mason jar and use as needed. This will keep in the fridge for up to two weeks. Shake or stir well before each use.
Make Your Mochas & Serve:
- Brew your espresso and divide between two coffee mugs.
- Stir in the desired amount of mocha syrup. Start with a tablespoon and add more, as needed.
- Pour over the steamed milk, garnish each glass however you prefer, and serve while hot. I like to garnish mine with whipped cream, additional orange zest, a sprinkling of cinnamon, and a cinnamon stick.
FAQs:
How do I froth milk for my mochas?
- I love using my Nespresso aeroccino frother for any coffee beverage that calls for steamed or frothed milk.
- Another option is to place your milk in a small saucepan over medium heat and whisk constantly until it is hot and frothy on the surface.
- You can also use a handheld frother with already warmed milk for a similar effect. I have this one and love it.
How do I brew espresso at home?
- I love my Nespresso machine for this, but before this was in my budget, I used a traditional Italian espresso pot on my stove. It works great and is MUCH more affordable. You can also make larger espresso quantities at a time, which is nice if you’re serving a group. You place ground espresso beans and water in the designated compartments and brew it on your stovetop. Simple and more budget friendly.
